Something we can all agree on is that every body needs is a vacation, or just more of it. ….Which got me thinking, how much of my precious time on holiday is spent just to get there? Between planes, trains, and automobiles I spent at least a full day of my vacation traveling or recovering from it. Now, it is a necessary evil, but it got me thinking of all the places in my New England neighborhood I’ve never visited.
One of these places is Foxwoods. Located in Mashantucket, CT, it is a mere two hour drive from Boston. When you arrive you immediately get the feel that you are at a resort. The parking is plentiful, which is a treat in itself if you are a Boston native. Upon entering the lobby, you were welcomed by the immediate assumption that fun happens here.
Dinner that Entertains
After getting to our room in the Fox Towers, where we enjoyed a view of the Connecticut tree line, we took an elevator to our dinner reservation at Sugar Factory. One thing we enjoyed is the proximity within the resort- Dinner, fun, and shopping are just an elevator ride down. Sugar Factory offered great American fare with a fun twist. The signature drinks were crafted with taste and entertainment in mind. I mean, with an animated fog (really cool dry ice – pun intended) how could you not Instagram story your drink? There was a little girl and her family having her birthday at the table over and I couldn’t help but think how amazingly cool it would be to have my birthday here as a little. I mean gourmet ice cream and mocktails ? File under; family friendly & can I be 8 again too ?
Self declared closet EDM fans whom love New England charm, we sauntered down to Shrine to catch one of our favorite DJs, Dillon Francis. When we heard we had a residency at Foxwoods, we knew it had to be on our road trip list. What we didn’t know is that the resort has so much to offer besides the music we love! Shrine itself was a really intimate club. Dillon, to say the least, was amazing. The performance and energy was really vibrant, and it was only a Tuesday! We were really surprised at the proximity to our hotel room, and after the show it was a quick trip up to our room.
Shop ’til you Drop
After all the late night fun, we checked out, popped our belongings in the car, and then re entered the mecca. Just around the corner of our hotel room were the Tanger Outlets. When I mean outlets I mean everything from Ann Taylor to the As Seen on TV store (and yes we went inside – I had to). I got the perfect summer transition dress from Tommy Hilfiger, and just for giving a smile the cashier gave me a coupon! Thanks Ann, you’re my girl 😉
I’d definitely recommend Foxwoods as an escape. There are so many things to do, it really the perfect excuse for a mid-week escape.
