Latte art has been a coveted instagram-able skill for far too long. Now, the common folk can have their hand at the gorgeous latte from home. I frequent my local coffee shop, but creating your own morning cup has never been easier AND doesn’t require any skilled milk handling. In fact, all you need is a stencil, frothed milk, and cinnamon to make beautiful latte art at home. With stencil latte art, the creation of your fun designs is really limitless. From some trial and error, I found that there is definitely a preferred technique for this, but don’t worry I’m going to spell it all out in my post below.

Alright so – let’s get to the stencil latte art. There are some things you’ll need. Luckily, you probably have them around the house. I know I did!
Materials for Stencil Latte Art
A stencil (I made mine more on this below)
Whole milk
Mesh strainer
Cinnamon
Tips and Tricks
Making your stencil
Print option: You can download and print this blank stencil. Print so that it is ~3-4 inches wide. This ensures that the entire surface of the top of your coffee will be covered.
Cricut option: I used paper for my stencil as well as my cricut – which I can’t recommend enough. They just started making a smaller version you should invest in (linked here). I would use mylar or vellum instead of paper for this project if you want to reuse your stencil.
Stenciling on your foam
Make sure that the foam from your coffee is almost at the top of the mug. You want it to be as close to your stencil as possible. The more space the more room for bleed, or a “fuzzy” design.
As you pour the cinnamon into the strainer, shake strainer lightly from side to side over the stencil. This lightly disperses the cinnamon, so that chunks don’t escape and ruin your design.
Less cinnamon is more- heavy “painting” can cause bleed and your design will not be as crisp.
This works best on whole milk. Why? It is frothier and creamier than other forms. This will hold your design. More on why farm fresh is better here.
