Anchor Sweater (no sew!) Tutorial

Since the groundhog let us down and predicted more cold in next two months, you won’t be putting away those winter sweaters just yet. With his inspiration, I created this very simple tutorial on how to update your old sweaters. This anchor sweater DIY is no sew and requires just 3 materials – making it friendly to any craft level.

The inspiration for this project came from a hole. I wanted to patch it up in way that said *new clothes* rather than goodwill bargain bin. Using two things I had lying around the house,  I create a cute little anchor patch to cover the growing hole.

For this tutorial you will needWith Heat n Bond – For anyone who knows me well you know that I’m weirdly obsessed with this craft product. The red “no sew” package to ensure that when you launder your new sweater friend they don’t get damaged in the tumble.

I wore this guy on a trip to Rockport, MA this past weekend. We had a great time enjoying the 50 degree heat wave.  I always love going to coastal towns in the ‘off season’. There’s magic in the calm that surrounds the coastal beautiful, a special patience being removed from the hustle of the crowds.

Materials

Heat n Bond (red package)

Scrap Fabric

Old sweater

Instructions for No Sew Anchor Sweater

step 1: As per the package instructions, fuse the heat n bond to the back of the fabric.

Step 2: Trace or draw your design, mine of course was an anchor, on the paper side of the heat n bond that is now fused with the fabric. The paper of the heat n bond will actually make it easier to cut and create a crisp design

step 3: Cut out your design.

step 4: When you are ready to Iron, peel off the paper backing off the fabric. This should reveal a shiny underside. Place the shiny side of the anchor down to the sweater, arrange in the desired position and press lightly (fabric setting adjusted) to fabric.

*Heat n Bond works best with knit sweaters and cotton. it may be hard to fix design on cable knit, etc. so keep to smaller knits for this tutorial*
