The holiday season is upon us again. First and foremost, this cheerful season is always about gathering together and celebrating love, life & a year well spent. But, between work, family, and friends your December wardrobe is working up a sweat. It’s hard to find the perfect outfit for each occasion while balancing your budget.
Since color and sparkle are season staples, I impulsively grabbed some red sequin fabric on a trip to my favorite fabric store, knowing that if I went back for it at another time it would be gone forever. So with a yard of sequins, I decided to sew a simple holiday that could be dressed up, or as worn here, with a pair of dark wean jeans while trimming the family tree.
Materials
A t-shirt to trace
1 yd of sequin fabric
matching thread
a sewing machine
STEP 1: To sew the sequins, some suggest individually clipping the sequins at the end of the fabric before sewing the seam, and then hand sewing in sequins to the “bald spots” to create a more professional look. For my fabric, I this wasn’t necessary and I just cut and sewed, but the choice is up to you and the strength of your patience.
STEP 2: Fold your fabric in half – sequin side in – & pin the your shirt stencil to the fabric. Next, trace the outline of your t-shirt onto the fabric. It works best if the armpit is more curved and less angular (as poorly drawn above 🙂 )
STEP 3: Pin your two sides together (sequin side in again) & sew on the top of between the neckline and end of the sleeve. Sew again from the armpit to the bottom of the shirt.
STEP 4: Adjust neckline as desired. I cut a low back for a more dramatic look.
